Cork is a wonderful natural product that offers excellent insulation properties. It is quite soft underfoot and wears incredibly well over time. In addition, it has the benefit of not being overly cold in winter and still cool in summer — making cork flooring the perfect all-year-round option for any room.

How does sanding work for cork floors?
A cork floor can be re-sanded to remove all polyurethane and reveal the natural cork underneath. After all the stages of sanding have been completed, we will apply three coats of Polyurethane Polish in either Gloss, Semi-Gloss or Satin.
As it is a natural product, it will have colour variations, especially when it has been re-sanded and polished. The sanding of cork is quite different to a traditional timber floor, and a lot of skill and extra care is needed due to the soft nature of the product. Cork re-sanding tends to throw out a bit more dust than when sanding traditional timber floors due to cork composition. Luckily, our sanding machines remove around 95% of dust; the rest can be avoided with drop sheets and coverings. We do dust down the areas we are working in but there will always be some small traces of dust in places as we cannot keep disturbing surface dust as it will affect the finish coat.

Maintenance coats should be done when the floor coatings have dulled down but not worn through the layers of polish, otherwise it will require a complete re-sand.
